THE CORRECT SNOWBOARD

Recommended length

How big should my board be?
The length of the board should range between the chest and the tip of your nose, where more advanced boarders prefer a longer board for better carving turns and better lift in deep powder snow. Free style boarders usually choose shorter boards as they are more agile, turn easier and are generally better for rotation tricks. For kids and juniors a board up to the tip of the nose is often purchased so that the kids can ride the board for more seasons as they are still growing.

Our tip:
It is better to have a board that is too small for the 2nd or 3rd season than to ride a board that is too big for the first and run the risk that the child loses interest in boarding.

General information

Which width is the best for me?
The width of board needed depends on the intended use and the shoe size. It is important to have a board with the suitable width. By the ideal width the toe and heel hang a maximum of 1,5 cm over the edge of the board to achieve the best control. If the boot protrudes too far over the edge the so called toe and heel drag takes effect. If the boot hangs too much or not enough over the board then control is lost as too little power can be applied onto the boards edges. Should one have a shoe size of Eu 45 or larger then a board marked with the term "wide" or "grand" is required.

Why are some boards more expensive?
In most cases the boards construction and materials used influence the price. Cheaper boards are usually produced with a foamed core where as better boards mostly have a light but stable wood core and in some cases shock absorbing elements. The quality of the base also plays a role. Snowboards with a wood core have a longer life span than foamed boards. A foamed board is at slower speeds easy to turn and is tolerant to mistakes which makes it suitable for beginners. Heavier boarders should stay away from these models due to the weaker construction and therefore consider a board with a wooden core.

Which foot should be at the front of the board?
Generally the standing leg is allways at the front and the moving leg at the back. Here are a few tips to find out which foot is at the front and which is at the back. With which foot do you kick a ball? This foot should be at the back of the board. How do you slide along a slippery floor? The foot at the front is also at the front on the board. If somebody pushes you lightly from behind you will react with one foot, this is usually the foot that is on the front of the board.
